Interests in Physics

John was awarded his PhD, entitled "Development of Electronic Collimation for Nuclear Imaging" in 2007. His primary research interests are nuclear imaging systems and new ideas which can be applied to improve current systems. His thesis explored the ways in which the Compton Effect can be exploited to improve both Positron Emission Tomography and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography. His experience in image reconstruction and data processing will contribute to the skill-base of both the PEDRO project – a hybrid mechanical/electronic collimation system for nuclear emission imaging, and the Demonstrator Project – which will provide spectral resolution in Computed Tomography.

Current development projects:

  • Development of a hybrid mechanical/electronic collimation system for nuclear medical imaging.
  • Development of image reconstruction and data processing methods for energy resolved computed tomographic imaging.

Previous development projects:

  • Development of statistical image reconstruction and data analysis algorithms for PET and the Compton camera.
  • Development of a wrist activity monitor for absolute images in PET.
