Areas of interest
Adam is an Electrical and Computer Systems Engineer with interests in the field of intelligent consumer electronics and computer peripherals. Adams experience has involved analogue and digital electronic design, the use of FPGAs from Xilinx and Altera, as well as projects involving microcontrollers (NIOS2, C67, Motorolla and PICs). For software and firmware design Adam primarily uses C and VHDL however C++, MIPS and 74series hardware design techniques are used when appropriate.

Previous development projects:
• Wireless Letterbox (Thesis, 2005)
• 8bit FPGA uC (ECE4604 Project, 2005)

Current development projects:
Generic Data Acquisition (GDAQ) System for X-ray and Synchrotron detectors:
• Cross-platform control and data transfer
• Software Driver, interfacing to kernel level driver for controlling the GDAQ PCI card
• Altera Cyclone II FPGA firmware for data acquisition and system integration, involving ADC capture, histogramming functionality, data storage and transfer

GDAQ requirments in more detail:

  1. Provide working FPGA IP, device driver, device access software, and documentation for a generic PC-based Data Acquisition System.
  2. The Data Acquisition System involves a desktop PCI card interfacing to 6 Analogue to Digital (ADC) input channels.
  3. Hardware to capture and store this data is to be designed and documented.
  4. A Windows driver is developed to allow user applications to access and control this Data Acquisition Card and a server application is also completed to allow control and data transfer from the card.
